Following on from the huge success of the newly revived Chorley carnival last June, the new Chorley Carnival CIC committee are working in conjunction with the local council to stage the very first Chorley Food Festival on the 10th & 11th May 2014.
The council have wanted a food festival in the town for some time but for various reasons the idea kept being pushed back, the main one being lack of a suitable site. Having re-opened Market Street to traffic a few months ago and local traders not wanting to take up valuable car parking spaces on the “Flat Iron”, the task to find the ideal location grew harder.
Chorley Carnival Committee were keen to stage such an event and found a site on the outskirts of town which partly defeated the object of bringing visitors to the town centre. At a meeting with Chorley Council chief executive Gary Hall, it was suggested that the council close Market Street for three days to allow the event to be staged right in the centre of the town. This has now had the full backing of the council and the event will take place along Market Street, Fazakerley Street and other town centre streets.
